Apples and Honey
"may we be sent a sweet and fruitful year"

Apples and Honey - the quickest recipe is to slice and core your favorite apple and serve with your favorite honey or if you have a few minutes - seeing how 13 days this month will be holidays - you may like to try our recipe for baked apples.

Baked Apples and Honey - Pareve

Ingredients:

    12 Large Apples - Washed and Cored but not sliced
    6 Large Apples - Washed, Simmered and Mashed or 2 jars of Motts Natural No Sugar added apple sauce (or other kosher apple sauce)
    1 Cup total of Chopped Dates and or Figs
    ½ Cup fresh or frozen peaches - do not use canned as they will turn to mush. You may substitute an additional ½ cup of Dates, Figs, or Dried Apricots if you prefer.
    ½ Cup Pistachios or Pecans (Pistacia atlantica & terebinthus are both native to Israel).
    1 Cup Honey
    12 Long Cinnamon Sticks - for presentation may be omitted.
    ½ Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
    Ground Cinnamon - to taste
    Fresh Grated Ginger root - to taste

Directions

    Mix honey, ½ teaspoon ground Cinnamon and Fresh Grated Ginger to taste
    Chop Dates, Figs, Apricots and or Peaches. They should be fine enough to stuff into the apples.
    Combine honey mixture and chopped fruits - set aside
    Fill bottom of baking pan (such as a Lasagna pan) with apple sauce, sprinkle with Ground Cinnamon to taste and fresh grated ginger - this will make an additional treat as well as keep the bottoms of the apples from burning will baking.
    Arrange Washed and Cored apples in pan upright so as to allow them to be filled.
    Fill apples with Honey/Fruit Mixture
    Bake at 350 degrees in middle of oven, until tender, about 30-45 minutes.
