Torah
The Torah is G-d's gift to His people, it contains His instructions and encouragement for day to day living. It contains His promises to us as individuals and as a family of believers. It contains life application lessons taught through the eyes of men and women just like you and me. Yes, they lived in a different time and in a much different world, but the lessons they learn and teach are timeless...just one of the many blessings HaShem gives us through His Torah.
We explore the Torah in its entirety every year, beginning just after Sukkot with Bereishit (In the beginning...). Each week we read a portion of the Torah known as the Parashat as well as a corresponding selection from the Prophets called the Haftarah reading. The Haftarah reading is not half of the Torah reading but actually a reading from the Prophets and the Writings (the balance of the Tanach -- what some people call the Old Testament, but that is a discussion for another time) that corresponds to the Torah reading for the week. In Messianic Judaism we also read a selection from the Gospels and Epistles each week.
While the Torah and Haftarah readings have been more or less set in stone for centuries, the Gospel and Epistle readings have not; as a result, there are many different tracks that can be followed. We will do our best to present all the available and accepted tracks, please be patient if yours does not seem to be included and email us and let us know so we can address it.
As you read and re-read each portion each year, rejoice in the new and interesting insights that you will gain, with the little things that "suddenly" appear that were there all along. This is a sure sign that you are growing, growing in your faith and growing closer to your G-d.
In this section of the site we will provide you with tools to help with your studies, from basic listings of the readings for each week, to commentary and insights from some of the Rabbis and Leaders in the Messianic Movement. These commentaries are called Dvar Torah and will be catagorized according to the readings, topics discussed, and other criteria; as with any part of our site, we welcome your feedback and suggestions and most of all, hope that you will be blessed as much by what is here as we are to present it to you!
